Genetic change
- The gene pool is the total number of different alleles that exist for a population. The process of mutation, natural selection, migration, and genetic drift all affect the gene pool and change the frequency of alleles in that gene pool
- Genetic change refers to the change in the frequency of alleles in the gene pool of a population
- frequency of allele = occurence of allele/total number of allele
- Evolution - process by which new species of organisms develop from earlier forms. It occurs slowly, most often in response to changes in the environment. Evolution follows changes in frequency of alleles in populations. Some alleles do better than others.
- Populations are units that evolution acts on - its populations that evolve.
